Derek Frey - Swimlion
Swimlion is a 41 foot custom offshore racing yacht designed by Carl Schumacher. She has competed in two Cape to Rio’s, a couple of Durban to Mauritius races and the 2006 Governors cup.
She was purchased in 2002 and 14 months was spent converting her into a more comfortable vessel, capable of extended cruising. The refurbishment included a bow and keel modification. Swimlion was relaunched in 2004.
Swimlion will be sailing under the Starcross Yacht Club Burgee. Starcross Yacht Club is located on the Exe Estuary in Devon and is reputed to be one of the oldest sailing clubs in the British Isles. On completion of the race Swimlion will be continuing northwards – into UK waters for a while and ultimately into the Mediterranean for some extended cruising.

Sailing experience – Started sailing dinghies as a child, progressing to keel boats. Participated in club racing, and offshore sailing, including the 2006 Governors Cup Race.
Sailing qualifications: RYA Yacht Master offshore
Haydon Dawe
Product Manager – POP industry.
Sailing experience - Completed 5 ocean crossings so far with the Governors Cup 2010 being my 5th visit to St Helena Island and 4th Governors Cup. Completed a Cape-to-Rio in 2000 and Governors cup same year. Co-skippered Rotary Scout in the 2002 Governors Cup and was aboard Swimlion for the 2006 Governors Cup.

Ian Smith
Mechanical Engineer, self employed in aircon industry.
Sailing experience - Club racing on a variety of boats all out of FBYC. Have done the odd charter in Croatia and Greece. Presently own the Muira "MAÑANA".
Sailing Qualifications - SAS Coastal Skipper.
Matt Stone
Project Manager - based in the SW of England.
Sailing experience - A number of years experience crewing on a variety of yachts in around the south coast of England.
Sailing qualifications - RYA Day Skipper certificate
Hendre Van Der Westhuizen
Civil Technician - civil engineering
Sailing experience - Has done 2 Lipton campaigns, various Western Province Dinghy sailing circuits on Oppies, flying 15's, Hobies and plenty of Keel boat coastal sailing.
